Breaking News: Mad Hatter Fever Strikes La-Preppy-Girl Land

So, it's official, summer is here, along with tanned skin. I'm already pretty tan, so going any darker for me is a definite no-no :L Solution? Hats!
I've always had a "thang" for hats; beanies, cowboy hats, floppy hats - every hat under the sun!!

Topshop have totally cute bowler hats
Nothing like a floppy hat to feel summery - and elegant too :)

These are too adorable for words, so I'll settle for *squeeeeeeee*

And a little summery picture for you :)

This was really just an excuse to show you lots of pictures of hats :P
Any of you guys have any summer must-haves on your wish lists? Let me know below :P

Breaking News: "La Preppy Girl" hits the Blogosphere!

Hey guys, I'm back - with a new blog name!

Okay, so I've read it all over the web, that changing your blog name and website is like suicide, because reader's get totally attached to it, and then when they see you've changed it, they're all like "huh?". But I don't care (#IconaPop teehee). I'm the kind of person that likes to do what she wants, how she wants, and when she wants, so - BAM. Here you have it; La Preppy Girl.

The name sucks a little, according to my brother, but I like it; I'm feeling preppy these days. I was thinking something along the lines of something to do with summer, seeing as the fantastic weather I've been waiting for for sooooo long, is finally here (*Does victory dance*) but I couldn't come up with anything that I really liked :S
Here are some pictures which make me feel summery :D

I don't know why, but I'm just sooo excited for summer this year! There's so much to do, friends to hang out with, summer barbeques to organise, guest list to be created; as well as studying for other exams. There's also a summer residential course that I'm doing at Cambridge University in a few weeks time :D That should be really fun; I can't wait to meet all the new people!

I'm super excited about the barbeque, because it's the first time I've ever organised a partay-get-together thing, and my friends are going to come around and just chillax and eat food. I'll have to clean up the garden though, and give it a #summerclean. Oh, and that reminds me, I need to find the speakers, so we can play awesome-sauce music and summer tunes.
Some vegetarian options for my vegetarian friends :)
Yummy burgers :3 oooh, my stomach's growling really loudly now :S
I've also been compiling a list of summer tunes, for my Summer 2013 Playlist. Here are some suggestions - maybe you'll like them :)

Summertime - Will Smith
This is the ultimate summer anthem; something about the track just screams summer, and the lyrics are pure genius. Favourite line: School's out and it's a sort of a buzz / Back then I didn't really know what it was

Radioactive - Marina & The Diamonds
Marina and the Diamonds - Radioactive single cover.jpg
It's a lot different from the other tracks on her Electra Heart album, but the clubby tune makes you just wanna throw your hands in the air and run around in the desert - or back garden, in my case.
Favourite line: Lyin' on a fake beach / You'll never get a tan

Blurred Lines - Robin Thicke and those other guys. Maybe Pharrell?
This song is just sooo groovy! Again, I just wanna dance along, although the video is somewhat je-ne-sais-quoi :S Favourite line: You wanna hug me / Hey, hey, hey / What rhymes with hug me?

I Love It - Icona Pop
I think the fact that most of the song is sing-shouted makes this so catchy. Whenever it comes on the radio, I just let it rip, and totally yell along with the chorus (I Don't Care!) I'm sure people in the other cars can hear me :S but oh well, 'cause I DON'T CARE! The song itself is basically about letting go, crashing your car into a bridge, throwing some guy's stuff down the stairs, etc, etc, being up in space, and being from the 90's. OMG and I'm a 90's GAL!
Favourite line: (this is how I sing it) I threw your stuff into a bag and pushed YOU down the stairs

Disclaimer - I totally warn you not to do any of those things though, 'cause I'm pretty sure your insurance wouldn't cover "I don't care" :P

Yowch, I just reread this before posting, and I don't really know what labels to put on it :S it's like a massive, buffet sandwich thing with music, food, randomness and me as the filling. Yummy!

Hope you enjoyed the La-Preppy-Girl-sandwich, and let me know what you think of the new look :D

Hello Everyone- Actually This Has Turned Into An Exam Post

Hey you guys, my faithful readers :)

Yeah, I missed you too. I can't remember the last time I did a post, and I feel pretty guilty for leaving you guys with nothing to read for AGES (I'm joking, you probably have much better things to do than read all about my life).

Not much has been happening; the reason I've been neglecting you was because of (yes, you guessed it) EXAMS. Big, bad, stressful exams. Which is also kind of the reason I missed this important meeting- I'm just super stressed out- like, my brain is literally fried!

Why is everything important happening around exams- I can't do revision, exams AND everything else on top!!!

Exams aren't great fun; I know they're for my own good, and if I can get over the fact that I hate them, I might just scrape good enough grades to get into Uni.*Sigh* Again, my brain is totally fried.
A few tips for dealing with exam stress:

Before The Exam- Don't Freak Out
You know as well as I do that you've prepared for the exam, you've done a lot of revision (and if you haven't, then maybe you should be stressed out). So there's no point in standing outside the exam hall
thinking, "What if I haven't done enough revision?" Relax, and prepare your brain for your (insert time here) long exam.

During The Exam- Scan Through The Exam
Pick out which questions you can answer the quickest, and which ones you need to take time and think about. That way, you can pace yourself, and make the best use of your time.

After The Exam- L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.
As the immortal Noah and the Whale once sang, life goes on. The exam is over! You might realize you made a HUGE mistake on one of the questions (I know I did on way more than just one question), but don't dwell on it. You can't change it, so there's no point agonising over it afterwards. Instead, reward yourself- go shopping, eat cake, play COD (not my cup of tea, but each to their own, I guess) HAVE FUN :D

Good luck with your exams, and I'm sure you'll ace them :)

xx

p.s. i'll try and do more posts about awesome stuff in the near future

This Weekend

Hey y'all (hehe)

So, I know I haven't posted in forever but I have a very good excuse.... uh :L ....let me get back to you on that.

Anyway, my life has basically been full of revising for exams, spending every day after school at a different revision session, and then spending all evening (whatever of it is left, anyway) catching up on homework. Fun times. (Note: that was a perfect example of dry sarcasm)

what a happy coincidence! midterm exams are coming up for some people~ comfort food, bby! :D <3 hope you like it, worked hard drawing this one. X3
This weekend was my mum's birthday, and so, we all went shopping to celebrate (the day before). Me and my siblings wanted to buy her a present; her latest favourite perfume, to give to her today. We were planning on getting her Lady GAGA Fame, but for some gosh-darned reason, they didn't have it anywhere- and I mean, nowhere. We checked 2 Perfume Shops, Superdrug AND Boots, and no one had it!! Sod's Law, right?

Thusly, we decided to get her second favourite perfume in the whole world, that Dad brought her ages ago: Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue, which smells D.E.VINE (like Adam Levine, but with a D. Come to think of it, Adam Levine is pretty devine too :3)
So, we got Dad to distract her, and ran off on our own around town centre, searching for the perfume. AND luck of lucks, we found it!!! Then we brought it.

Then, we took a detour- as my parents always go to town for a specific reason, there's never a chance to go into the famed Disney Store, and I've always, always, always wanted to go there. So, we ran into the store, and OMG I swear I was the oldest person in the shop (17 years old and proud)- voluntarily of course. There were a group of harrowed-looking parents, getting dragged through the store by their kids.

I was totally in my element, squealing, and grabbing the cuddly toy versions of Nemo, Beast and that bear from Toy Story 3 :) Then, I went over and had a look at all the dolls, that I never got to have (#mydeprivedlife). And then I had a look at the Disney-themed stationery, and the mugs, and that cute little area where they play Disney movies for the kids!

Then, Mum rang and was like "Where are you guys?!" and I was like "We're...uh [and then I had to admit the truth]- yeah mum, we're in the Disney Store [and she was like "you WHAT? How old are you?!]...Yup, we'll come and meet you in a sec...Yeah...Kay...Bye."

Then I forlornly bade farewell to the Disney Store, wiping away tears of sadness, and hurried off to find Mum and Dad in BHS (my least favourite store in the world *sickface* How does drab clothing beat Disney Store amazingnosity, I ask you?)

Then, we had dinner (in a very well known Portuguese restaurant, with very spicy food [depending on how liberal you are with their sauces;)]) Dinner was a little ruined by the fact that the customer service was terrible, and we were waiting for AGES to be served.

Then we got home, me and co. quickly ran upstairs, found the wrapping paper; tried unsuccessfully to stick it together with glue, seeing as the sellotape was in the TV room, where Mum was sitting. That didn't work, so we employed stealth and skill to retrieve it (I blocked Mum's view and distracted her while my sisters grabbed the sellotape. Very stealthy, I know:P)

This is actually an okay example- mine is ten times worse :L
Then (dammit, I need to use a thesaurus more often)- how about ergo?
Ergo, we woke Mum up this morning, with completely off key choruses happy birthday, and then about 20 "Hip-Hip-Hoorays" before my voice started croaking.

Hence, (haha, this thesaurus lark is totally paying off) we presented her with her present, and she absolutely loved it! Score one for the kids :D:D:D:D

So all in all, Mum had a great birthday, and we actually managed to pull it all together in time (okay, okay, I know we should have got the present weeks in advance, but- hey, we still did it, right?)

Hopefully, that story of intrepidness and fantasticness and pure legendariousnessness has inspired you to do something nice for someone you love.

xx

p.s. And remember, keep calm and enter the Disney Store :P

The Fifth Element

Fifth element poster (1997).jpg
This is one of my favourite movies of all time, and seeing as I haven't watched it in a while, I thought I would take the time to share it with you all.
If you were hoping for a description of the movie, you'll probably be disappointed, because I'm too tired to write one out here. The good news is, if you're interested, I will provide you with the link to the Wikipedia page where it describes the movie in detail :D What is The Fifth Element?

One thing I will say is that I love the whole Bruce Willis/Mila Jovovich love story; it's soooooo cute, and it just makes me smile everytime there's a scene where he's busy being in love with her, or caring for her *squeeal*

And another thing I will say, is that the "Diva Dance" is FANTASTIC, and never fails to enchant me, and then the beat totally kicks in, and it goes so well with the action sequence in there :D

I'll leave you with this; don't be fooled by the crazy, alien looking woman above (and the costumes in the movie were all designed by none other than Jean-Paul Gaultier, which is AWESOME).

I implore you to go ahead and watch the movie, because it is AMAZING, and Luc Besson, I take my hat off to you, because you have managed to create a sci-fi-action-romance-masterpiece.

xx enjoy :)

Just An Update

As you will probably have seen (if not, open your eyes!) I've changed the design of my blog. For most bloggers, it might signify a drastic change, or a change in opinion or something like that.
Just wanted to let you know, it's not. I just got bored of the old layout, and I had nothing better to do with my time (my social life is non-existent).So, let me know what you think; if you preferred the older one, or if the change is welcome :) And any suggestions, as always, are totally welcome.
Not much else has been happening in the life of moi...It's half term, my exams are a month and a bit away, and all I've got to look forward to is a whole two weeks of revision :(

"Happy Easter!!"
Easter is never a great time for me; no eggs (usually), scarcity of chocolate, etc, etc. But this year, (it came as a lovely surprise) my next door neighbour (we call her Grandma, even though we're not related, but she's super nice to us) got us (my siblings and I) Easter eggs :D:D:D (wow that was a lot of brackets)
So that was a super-nice addition to my Easter weekend.

Hmmmm...what else is there...OOOH!

Possibly the coolest album art ever
Hopefully, all of you know who 30 Seconds To Mars are (only the coolest band in the HISTORY of awesomeness!) Well, last week (18th of March- I don't even know if that was last week :L) they did this AWESOME thing! They sent the first copy of their new single 'Up In The Air' into SPACE *all jaws drop to the floor*! And then it's debut play was from the INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION- in space! I know- crazy, innovative and superbly fantastic! I mean, have you ever heard anything as out of this world (pun intended)?!
And, as well as being truly legendary, Jared Leto (the lead singer) is gorgeous! (And I mean gorgeous like OMG-his-face-belongs-to-an-angel type gorgeous) You should totally Google Image him (I would put a picture here, but my dad is totally watching over my shoulder, and he'll be all like "wtf!" at me, so...just image search him)

Anyway, after that little (okay, total) freak-out, I'm going to sign out, so enjoy your Easter/half term week/sorry if you have to go to work or school tomorrow.

xx talk soon

The Little Things In Life

Hey everyone :)
I've missed you- and I'm sure you've all missed me *conspicuous silence*
Uh, anyway, I thought I'd do another post on the little things in life, as, sadly, I have been concentrating on the big things in life; making big decisions, trying (and failing) to understand Statistics 1 (A Level Maths = the bane of my LIFE)
And sadly, I have been missing out on some of the little things in life. So without further ado, I would like to introduce you to....

Toffee Sundaes
      (No copyright infringement intended :P)
Oh. My. God. You've never tried the toffee sundaes at McDonald's??!! Right, I don't care HOW cold it is wherever you are right now, grab your purse, use any means necessary to get to your nearest McDonald's and BUY A TOFFEE SUNDAE! And then leave me a comment telling me how much you enjoyed it :)
Me and my Best Friend went shopping on Monday, and decided we both wanted icecream, and then we went into McDonald's and I got a toffee sundae and it was FABULOUS!!

Getting Things In The Post
Seriously, this is one of the best feelings in the world! I usually get excited when there's anything addressed to me in the post, but the best ones are when you get sent a letter from a friend. It's like email- but ten times better!
This is literally what my face looks like when I get a letter
Being Complimented By People
For example, once I was told that I have a voice like sweets, and I'm not kidding, it made me soooo happy! The same can be said for getting given a compliment that you really didn't expect (and no, I don't mean one of those really mean ones that are dressed up like compliments, but are really insults. If you're that kind of person, please change your ways, or I'll be forced to tell you you're a meanie. I'm serious.)
Nawwww
Giving A Compliment To Someone
It's a world of give and take. The feeling I get from giving other people compliments trumps being given a compliment. So make someone's day tomorrow, and give them a compliment. Who knows- maybe it'll make their day.

When You Find Someone Else Who's Seen That Obscure Movie You Love That No One Else Has Ever Seen
Need I say more? Once, I made friends with this guy (he was Australian, and he was such a great guy) and I found out that he loved the Riddick movies! (If you know what I'm talking about, you're officially one of my best friends :P) That was one of the nice little things I remember, because everyone else who I asked about the movie was like "What? That sounds like an awful movie."

This picture is only here, because I am obssesed with the movie :L

Exciting Times :3

Hello to all my many followers :) I know you missed me a lot, and I feel like I have been neglecting you guys, on account of having soooo much work to do :( So I apologize

On the upside, now I have a lot of things to talk to you about! Things like.... ummmmm (dammit, my life is sooo boring, after almost two weeks, I still haven't accumulated a plethora of topics to dazzle people with!!)

Hmmm... oooh, that's what I can tell you all about:

Recently, I applied for a writing competition- The Sony Young Movellist Of The Year Competition, which is basically a writing competition for Young Adult fiction writers, of which I am an aspirer (you get what I mean, right?) So far, I've had some really positive feedback on my entry from other aspiring writers, and I'm feeling quite good about my chances #fingerscrossed

Here's a little background info on my story :)
A concept cover for my story. What do you think?

Harley, wakes up in the Facility, with no memory of who she is, where she came from and why she is there. She finds out that she is one of a small percentage of people with a special gene; a gene that grants her abilities beyond the capabilities of normal humans. But as she spends more time at the Facility, learning to harness and develop her powers, she finds out about a sinister plot, involving her and the other "above average" kids at the Facility. And when Harley discovers the truth about her past, she realizes that she has to escape the Facility, no matter what the cost.

So if you like superpowers, superheroes, or any of the above, why not check it out? I'd love it if you'd leave me some comments, telling me what you think, either here, or on the website: Project GAIA; Gene Alteration, Implantation and Advancement

Mum Always Knows Best

This weekend, me, my mum, and my two sisters went shopping in town. It was nice, as we haven't spent much time together for a while, and we had a whale of a time! Anyway, at some point, we were outside Hollister when a friend of my mum and her daughter spotted us and started chit-chatting with us. As I didn't know them very well, I was kinda not paying attention to their conversation and then I noticed something!

Let me set the scene for you:
I glanced around. The sun was shining down (as the area we were in has a sort of open top) and the birds were chirping. And then I saw this guy- this super good-looking guy, with nice hair and a really nice smile; who was actually looking straight at me. "But that can't be," I thought to myself. Why on earth would he be staring at me? I turned around and looked behind me (because he had to have been staring intensely at someone else). But there was no one else there. "Could it be?" Finally, I was actually getting noticed by a guy!

I recounted this tale to my mother, and she enlightened me a little with her version of what actually happened.
That intense stare he was giving me, was actually because he was checking out my sweater, and trying to figure out if it was a guy's or a girl's sweater- because he was gay! (that would explain the perfectly coiffed hair and flawless skin) That look that I'd mistaken as interest was actually a look of concentration, as he attempted to check which side the buttons were on, and I'd just assumed he was staring at me! ;) But it was the sweater, obviously. How could I have been so silly? :P

What on earth would I do without you, mum, to explain these things to me? #har-de-har

But don't worry, my mum isn't this evil

p.s: I still think he was checking me out ;)
